Come for a presidential experience with James Madison on Sunday, August 8th from 3 to 4:30 p.m.  He’ll be speaking at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 N. Royal Street.  President Madison will discuss political and personal issues of 1813.  Guests are welcome to engage with the president.  All who live in Alexandria homes are warmly invited to attend.  Get more information and purchase tickets here.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for high school and college students.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is composed of two historical buildings:  a tavern built around 1785 and the City Hotel built in 1792.  The buildings take their name from John Gadsby.  He operated them from 1796 to 1808.  Dances, theatrical performances, musical concerts were held here.  It was also the meeting place of local organizations.  An annual Birthnight Ball was held in George Washington’s honor.  Twice he even attended it in person!  John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and, of course, James Madison were all regulars.  There is so much history near Alexandria VA homes, so make sure you take the time to get to know what is so close to home.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is a great resource for history students who live in Alexandria VA, too. Visit the Museum website to learn more about events and classes.
