Celebrate with Art Near Your Northern Virginia Home

The Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, near your Northern Virginia home, is offering plenty to keep you and your family occupied in the coming weeks. With the latest Art in Public Spaces exhibit, you can experience the “Joys of the Season,” through January 20th. An all-media exhibit featuring Luray Schaffner, John Schaffner, Jennifer Brewer Stone, E.E. McCollum and Rosemary Luckett portrays how each of these artists connect to winter.  As part of the theme, the center will be collecting glove and mittens to donate to the Child and Family Network Center in Alexandria, to be given to children who live in Northern Virginia.

The Center is located at 105 N. Union Street and the exhibit is on the second floor, in Site 2 Gallery. To learn more about other events, such as ornament displays, occurring in the more than 82 artist studios at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, please call 703.838.4565.

On New Year’s Eve, you can join in the fun at the Torpedo Art Center from 2-5 p.m. as family-friendly activities in art dominate the main hall and Art League Gallery. Salt-glazed stoneware pottery and activities at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum will give you plenty to see as you wait for the Torpedo Factory to transform into concert grounds for First Night Alexandria ticketholders.

First Night Alexandria 2012 will be the biggest family-friendly New Year’s Eve party held in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area! With over 100 live performances, food, comedians, storytelling, dance, musicians and fireworks booming out over the Potomac River just before midnight, New Year’s Eve 2012 will definitely be remembered.
