Northern Virginia Home to Distillery

The Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is a fairly new business, founded in 2009 by Becky and Scott Harris. As the first ever distillery in Loudoun County since before the Prohibition, the company is located at Purcellville, Virginia, right at the heart of the Loudoun Valley. Loudoun County is often called D.C.’s Wine Country, and is home to more than 20 vineyards and wineries, and the distillery.

Its name, “Catoctin”, is actually a regional name. It is pronounced as “ka-TOCK-tin,” as its an Indian tribe name called “Kittocton” which legend says it meant “place of many deer.”  It describes a range of mountains and a single creek that flows into the Potomac River, as well as the Chesapeake Watershed. The owners and workers of the Catoctin Creek and company believe in high quality food and spirits, and organic products are their passion. Organic simply means high quality, when it comes to grain and fruit, purchased and obtained locally as much as possible, free from pesticides, additives and other chemicals. Fact is, it is more difficult to produce organically, but a huge difference can be seen, or rather tasted in the results.
